Hans Jorgen Wegner, Danish furniture designer (born April 2, 1914, Tønder, Jutland, Den.—died Jan. 26, 2007, Copenhagen, Den. Hans Wegner’s furniture unites form and function; in every design, he places the highest demands on comfort and ergonomics.
Born in southern Denmark, Wegner apprenticed as a cabinetmaker, and later attended the Danish School of Arts and Crafts and the Architectural Academy in Copenhagen.
